The Boat “Muff Diver”is a 1984 Ocean Yacht, refitted throughout in 1992 and re-powered in 2003 with twin 500 HP A Northern-Lights/Lugger 6125A Diesels. In 1992 she went through extensive re-modeling to make the vessel more charter fishing friendly. The “Muff Diver” has heat/air conditioning, TV/VCR, stereo, microwave, refrigerator, ice maker and other amenities. The cockpit, planned with the fisherman in mind, is fully equipped for offshore fishing. There is a large kill box for your catch with an ice machine feeding it to insure your catch is kept fresh. There are two chairs, a rocket launcher or nothing in the cockpit depending on the kind of fishing to be done. She has full state of the art electronics. The CrewOwner/Captain Wayne Bradford bought the Muff Diver from Captain Joe Riley in December of 2006. Wayne has fished a good deal of his life but became an avid offshore angler about 12 years ago. He was looking for his own boat when he stumbled upon the Muff Diver being for sale. He purchased it with the understanding that Captain Joe would stay with the boat and teach him the business, both business side and boat duties. We are currently in this process. Wayne is an avid fisherman and a person with a vision for the Muff Diver’s fishing future.Former Owner/Captain Joe Riley is still running the Muff Diver. Captain Joe has fished from the Florida Keys to the Delaware Bay for the past 33 years. He has placed in many of the tournaments that he has fished and still enjoys taking his clients out for a day on the water with the new Owner/Captain/Mate Wayne Bradford. You will enjoy his customers’ hands on approach to his fishing charters – he wants the customer to hook and catch their own fish if they want to… if not, Wayne will do it.Captain Ron Callis is the foremost Mid-Atlantic Tile fisherman/captain. Captain Ron is holding or has held many of the IFGA records regarding Tile fish. He has been a part time member of the Muff Diver team since 2010 and we are very glad and pleased to have him aboard.
Captain Mike Abell is a new member of the team this year. Captain Mike has been fishing the local waters for over 15 years both professionally as a captain/mate and recreationally as an angler. Mike has fished from New Jersey to Costa Rica. He enjoys sharing his experiences and the skills that he has acquired with fellow anglers and he will encourage clients to get involved and participate in as much of the fishing process as they desire. The old saying does stand true – “It’s called fishing, not catching” but Captain Mike sure does like to go “catching.” Welcome aboard Mike!
Joining Captain/Mate Wayne Bradford is another new member of the team – Ryan Knapp. Ryan has been a 12 time client of the Muff Diver over the past two years. At the end of last year he approached both Captain Joe and Wayne and asked if they would consider teaching him the skills of being a mate. We both had been watching Ryan on the many trips that he took with us and noticed his enthusiasm and willingness to participate and learn. The answer was an obvious “Yes.” Ryan grew up crabbing, fishing and hunting with his grand-dad and uncle from Bodkin Point to Solomons to Ocean City – he especially loves to go offshore. We look forward to working with Ryan and we shout out to him – Welcome aboard Ryan!
